Cummins Insite Protocols Range talk points below:

Cummins 2007 and below protocol:
Nexiq Devices (Protocols J1708)

Cummins 2007 and above protocol:
Nexiq Devices (Protocols J1939)

Cummins 2008 and above protocol:
Nexiq Devices (Auto Detect)

NOTE: Is highly recommended to use NEXIQ Device tester to find the right protocol, whenever the "AUTO DECTECT" within the Cummins Insite software is having issues connecting or an error code is display while connecting.

In addition, often while using the USB link from vehicle to vehicle, we assume that each time we disconnect from the vehicle the USB Link gets power down, FALSE!
In fact the USB Link powers from the laptop USB port which it is “WHY” sometimes we get connections errors, even when using the Device tester. However, in some other interfaces like the DPA5 this won’t happen since the DPA5 powers up by the vehicle instead.

Solution: Every time you are switching between vehicles, it is always a good rule of thumb to disconnect the USB Link as well from the laptop/system this way every time the USB Link power down completely and connection between the USB Link and laptop/system is always renew/reset/fresh start.

Hope this insignificant hints can help you to achieve a frustration free connection every time!
